[There's a few things Gordo's realized: he's not in his middle school and something is very wrong. He feels pretty upset, but if there's anything he's learned from having psychologists as parents? It's best to remain calm and if you're in a dangerous situation, you've got to think about your position.

He's also realized he has wings and maybe this just means hes dreaming? But this is a really realistic dream. He's also already pinched himself and nope.

It's also night time and he appears to be in somebody's house.

He has a book that has a camera in it. Strange...

And this is really weird.

He needs to do something because sitting here in the dark in somebody else's house could be dangerous. He doesn't really seem to be kidnapped by anybody here because he's in a living room. And he could just walk out, but since he has no idea where he is? Well, no. Not a good idea.

He'll take a chance because this seems to be the only thing he can do. So he could be in your apartment, knocking on doors so he can talk to someone about this. He's really just a 14 year old boy and looks pretty defenseless in just his white cotton pants.]

[He sets down his hot chocolate and takes the mirror to look at his wings. They are definitely there and not some prop. He frowns and decides they're not the worst addition. He hands her the mirror back.

But seeing her magic is what makes him believe completely. His eyes widen.]

Oh wow. That definitely isn't Hollywood effects.

Hah. I was in denial for the first few months. Until I saw some dude made of rubber like ... oh what's that superhero from the Fantastic Four that's all rubbery? Mr. Marvelous? Captain something? [She means Mr. Fantastic, which should be obvious from the Fantastic Four, but you know... comic book nerd she is not. Though she has a soft spot for the Ninja Turtles.] Well anyway... harder to think it's not all real then.

A guy made of rubber? [His eyes widen.] Wow, this place. Uh. It's something. But I guess I can't really doubt it. I did just see you do magic and I can't see how that was fake. I guess I have to believe you.

I just. Don't know what to do now.

Usually that journal helps. But you can go down to the welcoming center and get your own apartment or look for friends and there's a school and things...

You've never been on your own before, huh?

Oh, there's a school? [He sounds interested.] I was supposed to be going on vacation, but I need something to keep my mind busy...

[He shakes his head and starts to feel a little homesick and a lot more like a kid than he has for a while. Nothing better than being kidnapped to another world to show a normal kid he's got a lot of growing up to do.] I've always been with my parents.

Yeah, they teach the normal things and then some filial magic and whatever.

Hum... I'm not sure if they have a temporary adoption thing for the kids who get taken here. I guess you'd have to ask at the welcome center. At least you don't have to worry about cooking, the restaurants here are free, just run by the cooks as a hobby or to keep in practice.

[He keeps the school idea in his mind for later. His education is important, even if he's in another world.]

I think having someone else as my adoptive parents would be weird. I'm so used to my own parents and...[He stops when he realizes she said the restaurants were free.] Wait, free food?

Yup! Everything's free. Sometimes they bring things in from your own world, or other worlds. It's not fit for a king or anything, but it's pretty nice all told.

Hey, I like free things. I'm not going to complain. [About the free things anyway, but everything else...?]

So is there any hope in returning to our homes or...?

Not really, sorry. They do send some people home, but it's pretty random.

Then I guess I can't depend on some chance.

[It hits him that he hasn't even introduced himself.] Oh, I've been kind of rude. I'm David Gordon, by the way. But you can call me Gordo. Thanks for explaining everything to me. I would have been lost if you hadn't taken the time.

Fujiko Mine. And it's been a pleasure to meet you Gordo. Most people around here are completely crazy.

[Arguably including her.... but that's another story.] It's nice to meet someone sane once in a while.

[He blinks at that, a little worried.] I hope everybody's not too crazy...

Mostly just a little... Some of them just come from crazy worlds or times so they expect weird things. [That would be her category, sort of.]

Then I guess staying here won't be boring. That's a relief. [He's definitely being sarcastic.]

It can be a little boring, [Holds up her fingers about an inch apart] but they let you sign up for missions now, so that's more exciting!

[Sadly she's serious. Which says something about her paranoia and so forth.]

Most people try to find hobbies or help out the school though. But like I said, that's how the restaurants are free, which is pretty sweet.

Missions are exciting?

[He can't find himself agreeing.]

Of course.

Some of the shifts too are exciting too, but some of them are more creepy and wrong than any fun.

Wait, shifts? Like work shifts or...?

No. Our wonderful captors that hold us here in Luceti or at least within the barrier run experiments now and again. They're called "Shifts." Big ones are about every other month, and small ones maybe once a month or so.

Sometimes they're fun. One Halloween everyone was stuck in costume. Another time everyone turned into the thing they wanted most. So one kid turned into a cake, another guy into an airship, people would wind up as their spouse, that sort of thing. And another time they made this amazing amusement park, though that was to make up for a glitch they had with something else.

...Someone turned into a cake?

[That's all he can take from this.]

Yup! And I think Blackbeard turned into pie.

[He's a little speechless.]

That seems more dangerous than turning into another person. [Hold on, that name.] Blackbeard? Like the pirate...?

Yeah, but not the one I knew. I guess there's more than one Blackbeard when you're going to talking about all the different worlds. Makes sense really.

This is really like some sci-fi book. Alternate universes and all that. It's kind of weird, but cool, too.
